Specialist status

“Research shows that positive involvement in sport leads to increased academic performance” John Dixon, Assistant Head Teacher Specialism.

Developing a specialism helps to drive up standards across the board, not just in the chosen area. Examination results in specialist colleges are rising faster than the national average and the Government is committed to developing all secondary schools as specialist colleges.

Our mission to inspire a life long love of sport and healthy living is at the heart of The Eltham Foundation School's Sports College status. Our facilities and resources are superb, allowing students to participate in a huge variety of sports, including cricket, rugby, dance and athletics. Some less conventional ones such as rowing, judo, mountain biking and horse-riding are also on offer. Regardless of ability, we encourage students to find activities they enjoy and which provide the best opportunities for success, not to mention confidence building and having a lot of fun.

We offer further qualifications in related areas, such as nationally recognised certificates in coaching and refereeing. We are committed to sports development in our wider community, working with families, local clubs and teams to promote access to sport and to keep raising standards. Our own teams and clubs compete for the school in most sports with considerable success and we take great pride in their achievements.
