SIMS Learning Gateway
If you just want to log on then please Click here to access the SLG logon Screen. If you’re new to this page or need more information, then please read on.

Introduction
SIMS (School Information Management System) is the system we use in the Eltham Foundation School to manage a wide range of information on all aspects of school business.

We have a introduced a new feature, the SIMS Learning Gateway (SLG,) to make certain information available online to parent(s)/carer(s) and staff. This includes:

  •  Personal details – Name, Date of Birth, Address
  •  Attendance Data - % attendance and lists register absences and lesson absences
  •  Student Reports – Copies of the progress reports you receive each term
  •  Behaviour data – Lists all behaviour incidents

The Learning Gateway is secure, and parent(s)/carer(s) will only be able to access information relating to their own child/children via a username and password.

Please note that the school will still maintain its current means of communicating with parent(s)/carer(s) on all of the above aspects, but the Learning Gateway will allow them to gain up-to-date information as and when they require.

User requirements

Security
The data stored and exchanged by schools is highly sensitive and therefore security must be a priority.

It is your responsibility to ensure that your user name and password are kept private. Whilst the software has been designed to prevent access to highly personal student information, access to the site must be restricted.

Always log out of the website when you are not using it, otherwise you may leave it open for use by unauthorised people.

Username and Password
The school will issue your username and password separately. You will be able to set up security details on your account to enable you to request a new password if you forget it.

FAQs

I do not have a Sims Gateway login?

Please use the contact form at the bottom of this page to request a login and password. Remember to include the name and registration group of your child in the email so that your request can be processed quickly.

My password does not work?

After 3 failed login attempts the Sims Gateway will lock your account, you will need to contact the Sims Gateway Administrator to reset your password. Please use the contact form below to request an account reset.

I use Google Chrome as my browser but I am having problems logging onto SLG?

Google Chrome is not a supported browser. Please refer to the User Requirements section on this web page for a list of supported browsers. You should be able to download the latest versions or updates to all these browsers from their website.

When I left my screen for a few minutes I had to log on again when I returned?

For security reasons, after a period of inactivity will you be signed out. This will happen if you do not access your account pages for 10 minutes.

I tried to access my child’s records but got a message stating that the data could not be retrieved. The data was there the last time I logged on?

All the data you access needs to be retrieved from the schools own data servers. If for any reason these servers are not working the data cannot be accessed and you will receive a message. This should not happen very often. If it does, please try again later when the problem should have been rectified.

My child has received reports from previous years – where are all these?

This is a brand new system and the data being made available to you all will start from the current Academic Year i.e. 2011 – 2012. This includes all reports, attainment and behaviour records.

If you need a copy of a previous year’s report please email the school using the contact email: school@elthamfoundation.com

Please note that clicking The People and Groups link does generate an error message but this is a known issue and you can simply return to your pages by clicking Go back to Site.

Can I really delete an item from the Student Timetable page?

On the Student Classes and Timetable pages there are some links that do not display additional information. In addition, from the student timetable, individual class details can be displayed in a new window. There are options including Add, Edit and Delete Item. These options are displayed by default and will not cause any problems if you click on them. So do not worry – you will not delete classes from the timetable!

When I have viewed a report and then go back, the page states no reports to view. This cannot be right as I have just viewed one?

This is because a connection is made to the schools data servers to retrieve the report. In order to maintain performance, the connection is dropped before you have time to view anything else. Unfortunately, we cannot change this behaviour. However, if you reselect the report page, a new connection will be created and reports will once again be visible.
