PE

Departmental aims:

In the Physical Education Department we aim to develop positive attitudes towards physical activity, pupils are asked to respond to a variety of challenges, set targets for themselves and compete individually, against others and as a team. Through this process they develop feelings of self-esteem, well being and confidence. This allows them to understand what it takes to succeed by developing an "always do your best" attitude, and to learn how to correctly acknowledge other's success. Thus giving the pupils the information to make safe and informed decisions about the importance of exercise to a healthy lifestyle.

Key Stage 3 Curriculum
During Yr 7 and 8 our pupils follow a set curriculum. The curriculum includes:
  • Outwitting Opponents
  • Accurate Replication of Actions
  • Exploring and Communicating Ideas
  • Performing at Maximum Levels
  • Identifying and Solving Problems
  • Exercising Safely and Effectively

When our students reach Yr 8, they will pick options for Yr 9, this could include starting the BTEC certificate, allowing some students to study GCSE as an extra qualification in year 10.

Our students also have the opportunity to take leadership opportunities within their lessons, and work with local primary schools as part of that. They can gain a qualification titled Young Leaders.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum
At present all our students undertake a BTEC First Certificate qualification. Students in Year 10 that choose extra PE as an option will study AQA GCSE Physical Education (60% practical, 40% exam)

There is also an option to follow the Sports Leaders Award which is an extended version of the Young Leaders.

Key Stage 5 Curriculum
We as a Sports College work with London Leisure 6th Form College to deliver BTEC National in Sport. Our students also have the opportunity to take part in our football academy. The course enables our students to continue their education whilst receiving developing there football. The students compete in the English Colleges League and Cup.

Extra Curricular
As a department we believe our extra-curricular provision is second to none. We pride ourselves on the amount of time given to the pupils and on the breath and standard of pupils' achievement at all levels. All staff within the department are committed to this process because we believe its' value can not be overstated. Whether pupils participate for competition, for fun, for fitness, or use the activities as a pastime, we believe our present programme offers pupils, the opportunity to contribute to the ethos of the school and gives them genuine links to clubs and the community for a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
