Geography is an exciting subject in which our students explore the earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live.

Year 10 and 11 (OCRb GCSE)
- We study 4 Key Themes over the 2 year course.
- Rivers and Coasts, Population and Settlement, and Natural Hazards Economic Development.
- 3 of these themes are examined at the end of year 11 (worth 50% of the grade) while the other theme is examined in a separate decision making exam in January of year 11 (25% of the grade). There are also 2 pieces of Controlled Assessment consisting of a 1200 word fieldwork write up (15%) and an 800 word investigation (10%).
Extra Curriculum activities, fieldwork opportunities and trips:

Trips and fieldwork opportunities are organized annually for each year group.
In year 7 pupils complete local fieldwork around the school grounds and at the River Quaggy.
In year 8 we move further a field with a trip to the South Coast to study the geology, coastal erosion and management of the area.
Year 9 pupils visit the new Olympic site and study the regeneration in that area.
For year 8 or year 9 pupils there is usually a residential opportunity to visit Swanage or our centre in Tyn Y Berth, Wales.
At Key stage 4 there is a two day residential to collect fieldwork data for the controlled assessment aspect of the course. This is usually a coast or river study. Day visits to the Docklands and Dartford also provide opportunities for pupils to make geography ‘real’.
